How to reach Mysore:

Air:

For inside India there is an airport service 10km’s away from Mysore city, it is a domestic Airport. For international Airport the nearest one is in Bangalore it is nearly 150km’s away from Mysore city.

Bus:

Regular bus services are available to Mysore from all major towns in south India like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mangalore, and Mumbai. From Bangalore for every 5min’s there is a bus service.

Train

Direct trains are available from all metropolitan cities of India. Well known trains to Mysore are Tippu Express, Swarna Jayanthi, Jaipur Express, Chamundi Express, Chennai Express, Karwar Express, Kannur Express, Shatabdi Express.

  • Auto Rickshaws – Fare is by the meter reading, there are also pre paid auto stands at the KSRTC bus stand / railway station Minimum fare is 18.00 Rs.
  • Tourist Cabs – Are the best choice in case you want to tour the city all day or visit nearby places.
  • Jataka Gaadis (Horse drawn carriages) - are available in Mysore. One of the few remaining vestiges of the old pre-independence Mysore. A jataka stand exists in the railway station, bus stand, near palace etc. It is a feeling of Heritage Ride in Mysore, when the city is illuminated in the evenings. It is most commonly available in Dasara.

  • Summers (From April to June) These summer months experience moderately warm weather which makes it possible for sightseeing and other tourist related activities. There is a wide difference in temperature between days and nights, with the temperature ranging between 24°C to 38°C.
  • Monsoon (From June to September) This time of the year should be avoided to visit Mysore, as the Southwest monsoons bring heavy rainfall during these months which makes sightseeing highly problematic. So, if you do have choice, you should avoid these months.
  • Winters (From October to March) October to March sees very equitable climate in Mysore with the daytime being cool and pleasant and temperatures being in the range of 18-32 degrees C, it is the ideal time for sightseeing. In September/October during Dasara time, celebrations are on in full swing and the Mysore Palace is a pretty sight as it is lit up and festivities are in the air. There are cultural shows, and general bonhomie atmosphere in the city. A very good time to be in Mysore, indeed!
    Mysore is truly one the cities that can actually be visited anytime throughout the year, as the moderate climate makes visiting quite pleasant. But, do remember to avoid traveling to this city during monsoons if you can, as the rains might dampen your plans.

There is a place called Regional Museum for Natural History, right opp to Mysore Milk Dairy in Siddarthnagar and its a superb place to learn a lot of things. And for this there ill be a no Entry fee and Parking fee. Its the first museum in South India and Second after Delhi.
