KRS built over the river Kaveri was a major attraction in Mysore known to be one of the widest dams at its time. The water collected here acts as a major source for the entire south of Karnataka. It would be an ideal tourist spot considering the many movies that have been shot here and the place is always crowded considering its fame and the number of people visiting.
However just about 2 kms from this is a more relaxing place that takes you away from the bustle of the people coming in. The backwaters of the river form a shallow source of water spreading itself over a considerable space offering a serene view of the river. It is a great location to avoid the busy city and the many people around. The shallow water, the small waves crashing to the land make sure that Mysore in a way doesn’t miss the sea or the beach it always did. The blue water yields it the name and one would have to pass through the village area to get here.
When we take the road to the Krishna Raja Sagara, KRS dam from Mysore, just about 3km off the main road, we can spot two beautiful small waterfalls – the Balmuri and the Edmuri waterfalls. The two falls get their name from the direction in which they flow, bala muri meaning cutting right and the Edmuri meaning cutting left. Both of them are located about a half km from each other.
